Job Title: Caregiver / Companion

Location: Spring Island, SC

Schedule: Full-Time

Compensation: $80,000–$90,000 annually

Benefits: Health care stipend

POSITION OVERVIEW:

A private family residing on beautiful Spring Island, South Carolina is seeking a kind, experienced caregiver/companion to assist their mother who is in the early stages of dementia.

This position is best suited for a CNA or experienced caregiver who has worked with dementia patients and brings patience, warmth, emotional intelligence, and professionalism to their work. The ideal candidate understands that caregiving is not simply task-based, but about building trust, companionship, and maintaining dignity and independence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Companionship & Emotional Support

  • Develop a trusting, respectful relationship with the principal.

  • Provide meaningful companionship and conversation.

  • Engage the principal in enjoyable activities such as playing cards, puzzles, light outings, lunches, and social visits.

  • Encourage engagement while respecting the principal’s pace and comfort.

Daily Support

  • Assist with maintaining a structured daily routine.

  • Ensure medications are taken properly and on schedule.

  • Encourage proper hygiene and self-care.

  • Ensure the principal eats regular meals (three meals daily).

  • Assist with light meal preparation and kitchen clean-up.

Household Assistance

  • Perform light housekeeping duties.

  • Keep living spaces tidy, simple, and organized.

  • Respect the principal’s preferences regarding how things are arranged.

Calendar & Organization

  • Assist with maintaining the principal’s calendar.

  • Help track family birthdays, anniversaries, and appointments.

  • Support scheduling with family and health professionals.

  • Drive the principal to medical appointments as needed.

Collaboration

  • Maintain open communication with family members.

  • Coordinate with other caregivers and professionals involved in care.

  • Build rapport with family members, medical providers, massage therapist, friends, visitors, and other caregivers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CNA certification or significant caregiving experience.

  • Experience working with dementia or memory care patients strongly preferred.

  • Understanding of dementia-related behaviors such as repetition and memory challenges.

  • Patient and calm approach to caregiving.

  • Ability to collaborate with family and other caregivers.

  • Excellent references from previous caregiving roles.

  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
