Job Title: Family Assistant  

Location: Arlington, VA

Schedule:

  • Part-Time, Monday–Friday, approximately 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM (flexible on exact hours)

  • Occasional extended hours until 8:00 PM when one parent is traveling for work (3–5 days per month)

POSITION OVERVIEW:

A family of four is seeking a reliable, organized, and warm Family Assistant to support household operations and daily routines for their home. The family has two children (ages 3 years and 10 months) and deep cleaners who visit every two weeks. This role focuses on maintaining household organization, handling light cleaning, cooking and meal preparation, errands, and basic household management. Flexibility for occasional evening hours and babysitting is preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Household Management & Organization

  • Keep household lists of groceries, supplies, and tasks updated and organized.

  • Run errands, manage online grocery orders, and maintain essential household inventory.

  • Schedule and oversee home maintenance contractors (e.g., washer/dryer repair, appliance servicing, occasional landscaping).

  • Straighten and tidy common areas daily to maintain order between deep cleanings.

Meal Preparation & Home Care

  • Prepare family dinners and assist with daily meal prep, including baby food.

  • Pack lunches and snacks for the next day.

  • Wash dishes and manage dishwasher loading/unloading.

  • Handle household laundry and linen care.

Childcare Support

  • Provide occasional after-school help as a mother’s helper (approximately 1–2 days per week).

  • Offer babysitting coverage one evening per week or every other week.

  • Extend hours as needed when one parent is traveling (3–5 days per month).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience as a Family Assistant, Nanny, or Household Manager preferred.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Reliable, patient, and proactive with excellent attention to detail.

  • Must have a clean criminal record and be legally authorized to work in the U.S. (visa sponsorship not available).

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record required.

Key Responsibilities:

Child Caregiver Support (Afternoons):

∙ Provide 1-on-1 care and supervision for 8 yr old boy during hours of 4pm-8pm.

∙ Develop and facilitate routines that reinforce learning of new skills. Specific attention to

to music, assistive communications device (AAC), and potty training.

∙ As needed, provide transportation to/from therapy or other external locations.

∙ Assist in transitions for dinner and bedtime routines.

∙ Collaborate with Mother as needed for hand-offs and shared tasks.

Qualifications & Requirements:

∙ High school diploma/GED required.

∙ Three or more years of experience providing education or support to special needs

children.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

∙ Knowledge of child education and childcare

∙ Calm, playful, and patient demeanor

∙ Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

∙ Strong organizational skills.

∙ Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evening or weekend availability.

The client is seeking a compassionate caregiver to complete a team of three caregivers for a woman in her 90s. We have supported this client for many years and highly recommend this position.

Primary Responsibilities

Personal Care

  • Provide grooming and daily living assistance for an elderly (90+) female.

Safety

  • Maintain a safe environment to support mobility and reduce fall risks in the home and during outings.

Medical Support

  • Assist the onsite supervisor with scheduling and attending medical appointments.

  • Provide medication reminders and ensure prescriptions are taken as directed.

Travel

  • Drive the client using a company vehicle to medical appointments and social events.

  • Travel with the client to ensure smooth check-in processes, wheelchair needs, and general assistance.

  • Occasional extended travel may be required; a valid passport is necessary.

Other Duties

  • Assist with managing and reviewing the client’s social calendar.

  • Prepare light meals.

  • Perform light housekeeping.

  • Run errands as needed.

  • Offer companionship when desired.

  • Attend training sessions related to specialized areas of care.

  • Provide minimal pet care for a small household dog.

  • Maintain consistent communication with the supervisor regarding all work-related matters, including providing at least 30 days’ notice for leave requests.

Typical Work Hours

Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM (includes bathing and dressing)
Night Shift: 8:00 PM – 7:00 AM (covered by 3–4 caregivers)

Qualifications

  • GED required.

  • Active and maintained CNA/GNA state licenses.

  • Five years of experience as a caregiver in a hospital, nursing home, or private home environment, specifically working with elderly individuals and age-related illnesses.

  • Emergency preparedness knowledge.

  • Must be vaccinated against COVID and comply with CDC-recommended vaccines for elder care providers.
